Dr. Prashanth’s academic journey is a testament to his commitment to learning and specialisation. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the prestigious National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, followed by a Master’s in Power Electronics from U.V.C.E. Bangalore. His academic odyssey culminated in a Ph.D. in Electronics & Communication Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The focus of his doctoral thesis, titled “A study of the noise frequency components effects on the physiological parameters and development of a headset prototype for protection,” reflects his keen interest in applied research with potential real-world impact.
Dr. Prashanth’s professional trajectory is marked by a rich tapestry of experiences. He commenced his career as a Production Engineer in A.V.R Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Mysore, in 1991-1992, gaining hands-on experience in the industry. Subsequently, he transitioned into academia, serving as a Lecturer at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, from 1993 to 1999.
His tenure at Vivekananda Institute of Technology, Bangalore, from 1999 to 2011, showcased his versatility as he ascended from the position of Lecturer to Associate Professor and eventually assumed the role of Professor & Head in the Departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering. Dr. Prashanth’s leadership was marked by a commitment to academic rigor and the development of innovative programs.
In 2011-2012, he took charge as Professor & Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at SJBIT, further diversifying his expertise. His transformative leadership continued as he assumed the position of Chief Coordinator for Research & Development and Postgraduate Programs at SJBIT from 2012 to 2018.
From 2018 to 2021, Dr. Prashanth served as Professor & Head of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at SJBIT, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape. Currently, he serves as the Principal of SJB Institute of Technology, situated in the vibrant BGS Health & Education City, Bangalore, steering the institution toward new heights of excellence.
Research Prowess:Dr. Prashanth’s research interests delve into the cutting-edge realms of Signal Processing, Active Noise Control, and Bio-Medical Engineering. His dedicated pursuit of knowledge is reflected in an extensive list of publications: 39 papers in journals, 28 papers in conferences/seminars, 12 articles in newsletters/bulletins, 4 chapters in technical books, and 16 reports. This prolific output signifies his commitment to contributing to the intellectual discourse in these critical areas.
Innovative Patents: In addition to his research publications, Dr. Prashanth is actively involved in the innovation space, holding patents for groundbreaking technologies. Notably, his inventions include a “Headset system for Headset communication” (IP38070/SGN – 2017, India) and an “Intercept detection and speech vigilance system for visually impaired personnel” (IP54302/KSG/sm). These patents highlight his focus on developing solutions that have practical implications and address real-world challenges.
