The SJB Institute of Technology (SJBIT) is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

1. Regulations

As an affiliated Institution, SJBIT adheres to the VTU Academic Regulations as directed time to time.

Currently the two academic regulations are in effect for UG courses: 2018 Regulations & 2021 Regulations.

Apart from the above two regulations there are/were 2017, 2015, 2010, 2006, 2002, 1998 regulations

For PG courses currently 2020-21 Regulations is in effect. Apart form this there were 2018, 2017, 2016, 2012, 2010 and 2002 regulations.

2. Academic Calendar

SJB Institute of Technology is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

Every semester the University will release the VTU Academic Calendar highlighting the University level directives like commencement and conclusion of the classes, conduction of Semester End Examinations, etc.

The Institution Academic Calendar is prepared in line with the VTU Academic Calendar  by the committee of the institution incorporating Institutional level activities like Internal Assessment Tests, Project reviews, Internship reviews, Academic Seminar reviews, Cultural activities, sports activities, Quality concern Programs, General holidays as received from the university, NSS camps, celebration of days of national importance, etc.

Department Academic Calendar CSE, ISE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical Engg., Civil Engg., MBA, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics is derived from the Institution Academic Calendar by adding the Skill Development programs for students, Guest lectures, Workshops for staff, industry tour, project exhibition, national/International conferences, etc.

3. Curriculum

Institution goal is to impart value-based quality education in the direction of achieving the set Vision through the Mission statements of the Institution.

The VTU prescribes the Scheme and Curriculum time to time to all the affiliated institutions.

Undergraduate Courses:

Presently the 2018 Scheme & syllabus, 2021 Scheme & syllabus and 2022 Scheme & Syllabus are in effect.

The 2018, 2019 & 2020 admitted candidates are undergoing 2018 scheme & Syllabus.

The 2021 and on wards admitted candidates are undergoing the 2021 Scheme & Syllabus.

Apart from the above two schemes there are/were 2017, 2015, 2010, 2006, 2002, 1998 Schemes & Syllabus.

Along with the prescribed VTU Curriculum, the Institution emphasizes and strives in all aspects to enrich the academic curriculum by introducing additional courses by doing survey and identification of industry requirement, consulting/taking feedback from the stake holders.

This helps to make the student’s ready for the recent industry needs. Over a period, the institution has evolved by developing a structured and effective pedagogy for implementation of the curriculum.

Outcome Based Education (OBE):

The VTU had implemented Outcome Based Education (OBE) and CBCS scheme from the academic year 2015-16 vide its 2015 academic regulations for UG courses (Bachelor of Engineering/Technology).

The curriculum content and delivery are based on the Outcome Based Education as per the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) standards.

The courses prescribed by the VTU and the additional courses/content augmented by the Institution into the curriculum are all designed on Outcome Based Education.

4. Teaching Pedagogy/Curriculum Delivery

5. Evaluation

VTU follows two main components for the evaluation of the students: Continuous Improvement Evaluation (CIE) and Semester End Examination (SEE). The weightages of both the main components and the subcomponents of the CIE are various Scheme & Syllabus dependent.

The Semester End Examination (SEE) is conducted by the VTU every semester.

The framework for Continuous Improvement Evaluation (CIE) is prescribed by the VTU and the institution shall adhere to the direction from the University, time to time.

The central committee and the dept level committee will ensure the standards of CIE conduction in assessing the Outcome Based Education. The appropriate Blooms’ Taxonomy level (BT levels) and well defined rubrics are considered for the evaluation of the students’ learning.

6. Award of degree

VTU will award B.E degree on successful earning of prescribed number of credits as per the different schemes.

VTU will award B.E honors degree on successful earning of prescribed number of extra credits as per the different schemes and regulations.
